DEFengineering operates as a partner of industrial companies that need professional industrial design and research services for innovation of products, machines, plants, and manufacturing tools. The Company is based on a dynamic organization able to develop timely intensive services, up to 2000 hours/month, to work instead of or in combination with the engineering services of our customers.
This capability is now crucial to reduce delivery time, in conjunction with an increasing demand for cost reduction and quality assurance.
In fact, the competitiveness of industrial products has to take into account increasing customers’ requirements, which lead to an increasing sophistication of processes, in conjunction with market globalization with worldwide competition.
A new product, when identified by the marketing department, has to get on the market as soon as possible, be characterised by high quality, and be sold at the lowest price.
The only way to reach these goals is a very effective approach in design to improve performances and reliability, within the limits of defined costs and minimum Time-to-Market.
In this context, other than the possibility to concentrate human resources and the use of more effective tools for modelling and simulation, a fundamental role is played by the possibility to use Concurrent and Simultaneous Engineering approaches. These methodologies are based on parallel advancing of all phases involved in new product development: design, simulation, prototyping, and definition of manufacturing processes.
To achieve this objective, one of the main issues is rapid transfer and availability of information between operational units (both internal and external to the company) involved in the development process, together with the use of maximum level of virtual prototyping. This strategy requires the use of design tools characterized by high level of integration, operating on the same database to allow fast data interchange and carry out all fundamental activities in design processes:
- Concept design;
- industrial design (aesthetic quality, ergonomics, functionality,..);
- machine design (kinematics and dynamics, vibrations and acoustics, stress and strain, heat exchange, fluid dynamics,…);
- manufacturing simulation (injection moulding, steel forming, tool paths for machining,….);
- rapid prototyping;
- technical reports and documentation for CE marking, imaging for marketing and advertising,…
The Concurrent Engineering approach can also be usefully extended to manufacturing process, allowing the optimization of machines and processing plants, obtaining the reduction of investments and increasing productivity.
In its list of customers and project database, DEFengineering has notable examples of partnerships with industrial companies, characterized by different technologies, for which the implementation of the most effective design methodologies allowed optimization for processes and increase of competitiveness for products.
